PayPal Standard Intermittent Order Capture Issue in Shopp

Summary

When processing orders with PayPal Standard, some orders may be charged through PayPal, but not show up in your Shopp Orders.

Known Cause

This happens when IPN (Instant Payment Notification) is enabled on your PayPal Standard setup, but PDT (Payment Data Transfer) is not. This specifically becomes an issue if the customer navigates back to your site, from the Thank You page, and makes modifications to the cart. The cart becomes “corrupted” if changes are made in the 1-5 minutes it takes for the response to come back from PayPal.

Solution

There are a couple possible solutions for this.

  • Enabling both IPN and PDT to your PayPal setup.

  • Upgrading to Shopp 1.2 should also fix this issue, due to the new Order Event system in place.
