Cross Selling on the Shopping Cart with Related Products

Cross Selling on the Shopping Cart with Related Products

In this tutorial, you’ll learn a technique for cross selling products on your Shopp cart page. This technique can boost your average order size by showing similar products to your customers on your Shopp cart page.

Ensure Shopp Content Templates are Enabled

Begin by setting up Shopp templates. Login to your WordPress Admin and go to Shopp Setup → Presentation. Then follow the directions. If you already have templates setup, then you’ll see a checkmark for templates and you can continue to the next section.

Notice: Templates are setup so that we can customize our Shopp without risk of our changes being lost during a future software update.

This tutorial has two parts. In part one we’ll introduce Shopp storefront related-products and setup some product tags. In part 2, we’ll modify our cart.php content template to complete the functionality.

Using Shopp storefront related-products

Edit your Shopp cart.php content template

Sample code

shopp('storefront','related-products' handles this functionality. Learn more about this Shopp API call

The following code will show 3 products that are related to the last item in the cart.

<?php shopp('storefront','related-products','product=recent-cartitem&show=3&controls=false'); ?>

The following code will show 1 product that is related to the last item in the cart.

<?php shopp('storefront','related-products','product=recent-cartitem&show=1&controls=false'); ?>

For the best experience, be sure that all of your products are using tags. Remember that product tags are set via WP-adminShopp CatalogProducts; then view a specific product and look along the right side for the Catalog Tags widget. Be sure to save changes to the product after making any edits.
